Quality management in the care for the elderly: E-Qalin®
Higher quality in management is being demanded more and more throughout Europe in all fields and this is applying equally to the residential and nursing homes sector. People working or involved in this sector are looking for appropriate instruments to assure evidently and to improve continuously the responsible care of high quality for frail and disabled older persons. The only question is which model of quality management out of the existing spectrum of measuring systems is adapted to the specific requirements of the elderly care sector and its orientation to and for the older persons.
E-Qalin®, the European pilot project retained under the Leonardo-da-Vinci programme aimed to find an answer exactly to this question. The E-Qalin® is a practical and user friendly model of quality management that is orientated to the needs of the residents, their relatives and the employees of the residential care homes. E-Qalin® examines specifically the services delivered in the institutions and their effectiveness in respect to the satisfaction of all involved persons. E-Qalin® encourages and postulates the learning within the organization through self-evaluation and creates a free scope to innovative improvements and potential development.
E-Qalin® has been developed with the participation of the users: From the education institutions, national and European interest groups and political representatives through to the pilot project houses. The project units the different perspectives to develop, evaluate and improve the model of quality management and the training concepts related to it.
